Extractive Landscapes - Mining and Quarrying
My specialist research interest for over 25 years has been metal mining landscapes, including interpretation, survey and analysis. I also have wide experience of recording and survey on non metallic extractive landscapes and rural industries including quarrying, china clay and upland peat.
Upland Survey
I have 30 years experience investigating, recording and surveying the upland archaeology of Dartmoor National Park and have also worked on Exmooor , the Quantock Hills and the Lake District, recording everything from Neolithic long barrows to Cold War bunkers. Work undertaken includes large-scale and mapping scale terrestrial surveys, LiDAR survey transcriptions, reconnaissance and rapid assessments, analysis and interpretation.
Woodland Survey
Archaeological survey in areas of woodland, with poor sightlines and limited visibility, requires precision of approach and technical expertise to keep the product accurate. I have wide knowledge gained through recording a variety of site types in forest and woodland situations, using Total Station Theodolites and traversing routines.
